Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

Aspley Basin (Huddersfield) where all the barges are kept.I dont actually know if this flow of water is controlled or not.If it isnt, parts were flooding.

The River Colne (Huddersfield) below the Galpharm Stadium.Further down stream is where all the trouble is and roads are shut.

Fields flooded at Farnley Tyas just outside Huddersfield. This is normally a stream running through here.

The River Don at Oxspring.12 miles away from the city of Sheffield. Its just not quite as high as last year when all the flooding occured.

This is a picture from last year when Sheffield was flooded. So you can see the comparison.

Re: Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

Finally got round to getting a proper look, the last two are quite similar, with what about a foot in it? Quite suprising really that it seems to make so much difference to areas such as Sheffield that were literally underwater before. The canal network does tend to have a flow control, although with enough run off from fields, this system may not be able to cope, hence the small flooding seen there. 3 and 4 show the extent of flooding very well there, especially the power of the water through the trees. Nice shots.

If anyone else has photos of flooding from the 21 Jan 2008 please post them up.

Re: Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

These are all from Lincoln.

Seems all sunny and calm from first glance (Brayford Pool)

This is the River Witham and Fossdyke Navigational Canal with converge after both flowing into Brayford Pool.

The Glory Hole where the above (lets call it the canal) goes under the high street of lincoln, normally a little flow, but not like this!

Again the canal before it goes under the high street

Other side of Glory hole and out of high street, and off through Lincoln.

Closer view of how close it is to banks. The waterside shopping centre on the left had cages of sandbags inside the doors incase.

there are quite a few, will upload them in bits.

Re: Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

Brayford Pool, not far off up to top of wall, normally you can just about see the bottom.

You wouldn't believe it looks a scene of tranquility when you can't see how fast the waters flowing or what colour it is!

All the water trying to get of Brayford Pool, down to the Glory Hole.

Same again

And again.

Re: Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

Flooding on path on one side of where you can go under the road up to the high street. It was ok for cyclists who could go straight through, a little deep for pedestrians!!

The path on other side, presumably the water had been higher and topped the wall at the lower point judging with it being the same colour.

River, and well river!!

Water swirling out of Brayford Pool

Looking from the bridge looking at the canal and water on the path.

Looking towards Glory hole. (sorry they aren't in any order!)

Crayz foo's canoing! Told them 'rather them than me!'

Re: Flood Pictures 21st Jan 2008

Looking across canal to Marks & Spencer's, you can see how close it is to top of wall, it's lower further up!

Looking back towards flooding under bridge from side I had to cross to since I couldn't get under!

Few weeks ago this just used to be a bit of loose stones and broken wall, could job they built it up!

Looking from the main road bridge at other end of Brayford Pool where the Fossdyke Navigational Canal comes in, normally some moorings.

There is normally a tow path and side of the canal here.
