Re: RFMI - Luton Tornado 24th September 2007

Eyewitnesses said they believe a tornado hit part of Luton, in Bedfordshire, on Monday morning.
Residents living in Mallard Gardens said they watched as it ripped through their back gardens. Ruth Spaull said: "It has taken tiles off roofs.

"We've got a 10ft trampoline - it took it 15ft up in the air and dumped in it a car park across the road," she added.

Tornadoes struck elsewhere in Britain, with reports of damage in Hampshire, the West Midlands and Northampton.

Terrence Meaden, deputy head of tornado research group Torro, said Luton was hit at 0645 BST.

He said: "I have spoken with a witness who saw the tornado funnel at ground level going through her garden."
