Station notes from june 2009

JUNE 2009 STATION NOTES

6th Very heavy rainfall during the morning. A miserable day

turned out to be the coldest in June since 1997.

10th Light thunderstorm at 1524 BST.

15th Thunder heard at 1700 BST

26TH Poor visibility at times down to fog levels in places due

to low stratus. Thundery shwrs throughout the afternoon and

early evening with some heavy rain at times.

27th 16 year old boy struck by lightning in park 3 miles east

of here during storms beginning 1521 GMT. The boy later died

in hospital.

29th Thunderstorms breaking out from 1535 GMT but mainly to

the west of this station and moving north. Some heavy rain at

times after storms had passed the area.


Warmest and wettest June since 2007.

Rainfall well above the average for the 1st-10th and 21st-30th

but the middle of the month was very dry.

It was the least windiest June at morning observation on

record (1986).

Mean sea level pressure was the highest at 0900 since 2006.

Thunder on 4 occasions the most since 2005.

Grass min of -1.2c (12th was the lowest since 2005 (-1.4c).
