UK Weather Forecast for Wednesday 20th February 2008
Duty Forecaster: Dollsworth
Forecast #17 | #150 in total

à NEW!! UK Weather Symbol Summary Chart
à ALSO!! A Special Lunar Eclipse Weather Forecast arriving tomorrow…

Weather News: Very cold where fog lingered today with sub-zero temperatures, and also reports of light snow…

RIVER WATCH: No flood warnings in force. FloodLine: 0845 988 1188

WEATHER WARNINGS: None.

WEATHER WATCHES: DENSE FOG across East Anglia, the East Midlands, South East and Eastern England; possible GALES across Northern Scotland.

Green area: This region is expected to see a large amount of cloud and possibly some rain at some stage during the day – the rain may be persistent at first across the Highlands and Islands of western Scotland but as it pushes southeast during the day, it will weaken and turn much patchier. The rain should clear Northern Ireland and the western half of Scotland soon after lunchtime with some sunny spells developing and a couple of light showers. Not much rain is expected across the eastern side of Scotland and there may be some sunny spells across Northern England before cloud thickens during the afternoon, possibly bringing some patchy light rain towards evening. Some more persistent rain is likely across the north west of Scotland towards evening too. Caution: It will be a cold start to the day with a frost possible in some places and therefore rain falling on frozen or cold surfaces may turn to ice. Take care if driving. Quite windy, particularly in the west where gales may affect Northern Scotland later in the day. Max temps 9°C (48°F). Confidence: 95%

Yellow area: Early mist and fog patches will gradually clear and frost will slowly melt leaving sunny spells, but also variable cloud amounts at time, especially later on in the day towards north Wales and northwest England. There may be a few stubborn fog patches, but generally sunny spells will be the story. Feeling a little mild with light variable breezes. Max temps 10°C (50°F). Confidence: 98%

Grey area: Fog in places could linger for much of the morning, along with a frost. It should gradually lift to low cloud with a few possible sunny or brighter spells, but generally a lot of cloud around. Some snow grains are possible from thicker cloud during the morning, and some areas may stay around freezing for much of the day. The best of any possible sunny outbreaks will be on the western and southern fringes of this region. There will be some freezing fog with significant reductions in visibility leading to hazardous driving conditions – take care if out driving. Light variable breezes. Max temps 8°C (46°F). Confidence: 95%

Hotspot of the day: Belfast. 9°C (48°F).
Coldspot of the day: Stubborn fog in eastern England. 1°C (34°F).
