Coast alert in second tidal surge

Coast alert in second tidal surge

A road has been closed by flooding caused by another tidal surge on the east coast. Norfolk Police said the A143 at Haddiscoe was passable only with great care at St Olaves Bridge as water rose over the banks of the River Waveney.
Sea levels rose above the predicted level of 2.2m (7ft 2in) reaching 3.0m (9ft 10in) on Sunday morning.
The Environment Agency has three flood warnings in Norfolk and Suffolk and 11 flood watches from Norfolk to Essex.
Two weeks earlier coastal and broadland areas of Norfolk and Suffolk were affected an earlier tidal surge which caused severe coastal damage at Walcott in North Norfolk and also closed the A143 at Haddiscoe.
HM Coastguard at Great Yarmouth said there had been no problems overnight at sea or into the morning as a result of the high tides.
