Five people are reported to be trapped in a first floor building by rising flood water in Barry, south Wales.

Fire crews were called to the scene in Gladstone Road following localised flooding which has made the area impassable. Firefighters from the South Wales brigade have launched a rescue boat to help rescue the people in the building.

Floods have caused chaos in Berkshire forcing the closure of four schools and the evacuation of homes.


Maidenhead and Windsor have both been badly affected, with a shopping complex also closed. Furze Platt Infants School, Windsor Boys School and Boyne Hill Infants School in Maidenhead, along with Trinity St Stephen's School are shut. The Nicholson Walk shopping complex, is closed due to the severe weather. Newbury has also been badly affected.

People had to leave their flooded homes in several North Yorkshire villages after Skeeby Beck burst its banks on Thursday night.


Fire crews were called to Gilling West, Hartforth, Melsonby, Ravensworth, Kirby Hill and Middleton Tyas near Richmond after reports of flash flooding.
Up to 25 crews dealt with dozens of flooded homes and businesses.
On Friday police said the flooding had "subsided significantly" and many roads closed on Thursday had re-opened. However, a number of side roads off the A66 were still closed on Friday morning.

Man dies bailing out flooded home

A man has died trying to bail floodwater out of his Cumbrian home. The 64-year-old was attempting to bail water out of his cellar in Nenthead Road, Alston, on Thursday night, when he suffered head injuries.
