Re: Royal Mail Postal Scam PDS

Well some of my work paid off, I got this from the BBC and they have amended their story:

"Thanks very much for your email - you are indeed correct that the number has been closed. We've now taken the it off the story - thanks again."

The story originally had references to Hampshire Police who in turn referenced their area Trading Standards Office as the source of the information. The reply from the Trading Standards Officer concerned was as follows:

"As far as I am aware, the position with this particular scam is exactly as stated on the ICSTIS website and there is no evidence, at present, to suggest it has started to operate again.

The whole issue appears to have resurfaced solely as a result of the 'chain' email that is circulating, but it has, as you suggest, provided the various enforcement agencies with the opportunity to raise public awareness.

In my view there is a thin line between raising awareness and scaremongering.

Re: Royal Mail Postal Scam PDS

Did I hear a whisper that our very own investigative journalist of the year, otherwise known as TW, has uncovered more to this murky story of scams, sloppy reporting and official scaremongering???

Re: Royal Mail Postal Scam PDS

LOL Twister,

I was contacted by the ICSTIS press office today as a number of high profile sites for local government are still publishing the story and despite my best efforts, will not publish the right details.

ICSTIS have now contacted the relavant depatments to re-iterate the scam is old news and that any emails are "spam".

New bulletins have gone out to the police forces, trading standards and media so hopefully the "stamp of approval" for sending hoax emails to everyone in your inbox will be removed shortly.
