| Re: US Airways Airbus A320 Crashes 15th January 2009 DEVELOPING STORY: A U.S. Airways jet crashed Thursday in the Hudson River in New York City, sending passengers fleeing into the icy waters. It wasn't immediately known whether anyone was killed or injured in the accident, though initial reports suggested that no one was hurt. The FAA said it was investigating a possible bird strike as the cause of the crash. Passengers could initially be seen standing on the wings of the Airbus 320 floating in the water. Flight 1549 took off from New York's LaGuardia Airport at 3:26 p.m. Thursday and was heading for Charlotte, N.C., with 146 passengers and five crew on board. New York City firefighters, federal transportation officials and an armada of boats were responding to the accident. "I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water," said witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press. The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows, and rescue crews had opened the door and were pulling passengers in yellow life vests from the plane. Several boats surrounded the plane, which appeared to be slowly sinking. | Re: US Airways Airbus A320 Crashes 15th January 2009 From the FAA: La Guardia Airport (LGA) FAA Status: Advisory Due to WX / WIND, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 1 hour and 21 minutes. General Departure Delays: Because a traffic management program is delaying some arriving flights, departing flight schedules may be affected. Check with your airline to determine if your flight is affected. General Arrival Delays: Arrival traffic is experiencing airborne delays of 15 minutes or less. |

| Re: US Airways Airbus A320 Crashes 15th January 2009 Apparently the plane is still partially floating and is currently being pushed towards shore with the emergency services trying to keep it from sinking into over 50 feet of water. NTSB will arrive in NY at around 7.30pm local time to begin their investigation. It is assumed at this time that all persons were evacuated from the plane however, as passengers were taken in various directions it has not been confirmed at this time until the airline account for all persons.
