| Newbie on-line Hi "Another new hobby" 'er indoors said with that glance skyward that I've seen so many times before After a month or so of deliberating about what to buy, I decided on an Oregon Scientific WMR100 which is now available with a free additional temperature / humidity sensor. The kit arrived Friday PM and I was on-line by the time I went to bed in the early hours of Saturday morning! I know there's better kit out there but I didn't want to blow a huge wad of money only to see the gear gathering dust (I did that with amateur radio!). I've spent some of the weekend getting things a little more ship-shape but I'm not quite where I want to be yet. I had a bit of a problem getting the rain gauge to work but a reset sorted that this afternoon and I'm a tad disappointed that the WMR100 doesn't do UV out of the box - looks like I need to spend another £40 on another sensor for that. I put the wind sensor on a mast today so it's now at approx 15' high, about 50 feet from the house and away from all of my trees. (I lengthened the supplied mast using a 2.4m white aluminium pole from the local B&Q). I'm using a temporary URL at the moment Weather Display Live but I'll sort something a little less personal soon. You'll see I'm using Weather Display Live (Weather Display on the PC) - is this the "best" software out there or does anyone have any recommendations for something better? I have a retired PC that I'll probably dedicate to the WMR100 and then I'll be able to leave the station running 24/7. I had a play with WDL and found it reasonably easy to manipulate but then I work in IT so I guess I should! Weather Display on the PC I'm finding a bit quirky and soooo many parameters The "free" sensor has been put to work in the greenhouse which is about 100' from the house so I'm also pretty pleased with the signal range. Any constructive views / advice on the set-up welcomed.

| Re: Newbie on-line Hello Stuart I'm also a WMR100 user and have had similar initial problems with the rain gauge. The reset usually does the trick in all cases. The weather display live looks good. I'm not on line yet but I'm impressed with the web page. The last time I checked the UV sensor was on back order and not available but that was some time ago. If you have any luck with getting one then let us know, we have a few WMR100 users in the forum. ![]()

| Re: Newbie on-line Hi StuartR and thanks for the info on your setup. I have a WMR100 as well and do very occasionally lose contact with the rain sensor, but as you say a reset sorts it (in fact it usually reconnects by itself after a while). Your site looks good so far - the main alternative to Weather Display is Virtual Weather Station, which when combined with Weatherflash produces similar results to your page. You can download a trial to see which you prefer - they do similar things but presented in a different way so it's down to personal preference. |

| Re: Newbie on-line Hi Stuart: You're an IT man, then you complain about too much information Basically, if you have some software that can read current and historic data from the wx, then the worlds your oyster ! Just use the capture and or ftp / upload capabilities, then scour the web for ideas / freebies for templates / code snippets / graphics to make it your own. Dedicating an old PC is a good idea, you will see mentioned in several threads that most of the 'weather softwares' are very resource hungry, probably written by grown up gamers ![]()

| Re: Newbie on-line Great to see another member online. The weatherdisplay live is a nice addition, much better than the pages WD outputs as basic.
