Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

The easiest way to check on any specific data field is to edit one or more occurrences of that field to some distinctive value then check in the software history display to see what it is calling your specially created value. That's what I did to find some of the ones I needed.

I'm pretty much sure that the values in the dat file are in fixed units and those shown in the display are converted from the recorded values.

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

I have just had the LCD display loose all of it's external data, all blanks. I tried taking the battery out of the display, then the sensors, then both together - I even took it outside to place it next to the sensors, still nothing. 30 minutes later the clock resynched, then the weather data came back on the screen. Rather odd...

During the above process, I discovered that the display does have an indicator for when it receives a burst of data from the outdoor sensors - it is just above the outdoor relative humidity data, a dot with three quarter circles which flasshes briefly as the data is received.

Minutes before the loss of displayed data, I had been trying the manufacturers suggested method of clearing the stored rain data. I managed to clear the Max for the Last hour in EW, but not the Last 24 hours, Last week and Last month.

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

Don't worry about the anomonaly !
You are looking at the last data from the wx, NOT the last (5 min) record

Doesn't seem to be 'carrying around' Min / Max nor change / trends

But .......... It may be 'carrying around' rain totals

beteljuices thoughts #2

1/ Record No.
2/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of when Software interogated wx
3/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of RECORD
4/ probably recording interval (minutes)
5/ indoor humidity
6/ indoor temp. (is this always C or user set ?)
7/ outdoor humidity
8/ outdoor temp. (is this always C or user set ?)
9/ Dew Point (is this always C or user set ?)
10/ Windchill (is this always C or user set ?)
11/ baro - absolute (is this always hPa or user set ?)
12/ baro - relative (is this always hPa or user set ?)
13/ windspeed - appears to be metres per sec
14/ ? windspeed - may be beaufort
15/ windspeed GUST - appears to be metres per sec
16/ ? windspeed GUST - may be beaufort
17/ wind direction: 0 - 15 options 8 = S(outh)
18/ wind direction: NNW - probably language dependent
19/ ? eg. 0 - integer
20/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
21/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
22/ hourly rain - appears to be mm
23/ 24hr rain - appears to be mm
24/ ? may be 7 day rain (mm ?)
25/ ? may be rain month(? this or 30 days)(mm ?)
26/ ? may be rain total (mm ?)
27 => 34/ ? eg. 0 - integer

Any ideas on the blanks ?, what 'fields' do you have when you look at historic records with the software ?

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

Good idea on replacing the data with set values and checking the history record. I have changed all of the values to 21 to 40 sequentially on the first record and they show up as expected, but not all in the same order as the column descriptions. It will take me a while to fill in the blanks, so will have to leave it for tonight - I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

Gee you guys are really doing some good work here, very impressive. As you might recall I gave up with the Watson and got a Origon 928 on eBay for £150 from Germany. Must admit that the transaction was smooth, the only downside was that the PSU was Euro and the 'radio time' is set at UTC +2, still for the price I'm not complaining.

The set up is working faultlessly, the only thing left to do is construct a Davis screen for the external temp. It won't be as exotic as Betel's stainless steel masterpiece, just a wooden box with slats etc. Will see how that does.

Thanks to all for the very interesting read.

Cheers Noel

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

Right, here we go....

This is beteljuice's table, but corrected by me. What I did was edit all of the values in the first record of EasyWeather.dat, changing the numbers to increment by 1 from 20 to 48 - but using similar data to the original.

I then ran EW, clicked on history, found the first record in the file all neatly numbered up (but not necessarily in sequential order) and with a corresponding label. That enabled me to tie each data field to an actual label.

As near as I can tell at the moment, the data in the .dat file is always stored in the same basic format and then any conversion is done within the software (to change from for instance deg C to deg F etc..)

1/ Record No.
2/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of when Software interogated wx
3/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of RECORD
4/ recording interval (minutes)
5/ indoor humidity
6/ indoor temp. C
7/ outdoor humidity
8/ outdoor temp. C
9/ Dew Point C
10/ Windchill C
11/ baro - absolute hPa
12/ baro - relative hPa
13/ windspeed - metres per sec
14/ wind level - beaufort
15/ windspeed GUST - metres per sec
16/ ? windspeed GUST -beaufort
17/ wind direction: 0 - 15 options 8 = S(outh) ???????
18/ wind direction: NNW - probably language dependent
19/ ? eg. 0 - integer
20/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
21/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
22/ 24 hour rain - mm
23/ Week's rain - mm
24/ Month's rain mm
25/ Total of rainfall mm
26/ Doesn't show up in history table????
27 => 34/ ? eg. 0 - integer

I think the above is correct, but no guarantees.

Re: Watson W-8681 - first month

Corrected table...

My error, I miss counted the data fields.

I have also checked out data field 17 and agree it matches the wind direction.

1/ Record No.
2/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of when Software interogated wx
3/ date / timestamp (ISO format) of RECORD
4/ recording interval (minutes)
5/ indoor humidity
6/ indoor temp. C
7/ outdoor humidity
8/ outdoor temp. C
9/ Dew Point C
10/ Windchill C
11/ baro - absolute hPa
12/ baro - relative hPa
13/ windspeed - metres per sec
14/ wind level - beaufort
15/ windspeed GUST - metres per sec
16/ ? windspeed GUST -beaufort
17/ wind direction: 0 - 15 (0 = N; 4 = E; 8 = S; 12 = W)
18/ wind direction: in format of 'NNW' - probably language dependent
19/ ? eg. 0 - integer
20/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
21/ ? eg. 0.0 - 1 dec place
22/ Last hours rain - mm
23/ Last 24 hours rain - mm
24/ Week's rain - mm
25/ Month's rain mm
26/ Total of rainfall mm
27 => 34/ ? eg. 0 - integer - No information yet on these, they may just be dummy data fields.
