Smile Photosynth

Anyone had a go at Microsoft's photosynth? To start with, I experimented with a few sky shots, going around 180 degrees from North to South and you can see the results here: Photosynth Viewer

I know my shots are primitive but with more pix and angles I think it has possibilities for showing how the observer saw the sky at that point in time.

Re: Photosynth

Maybe my graphics card doesn't cut the mustard but I must say that unfortunately I was distinctly underwhelmed

Yes, there is a small download (circa 8.13 mb)and you are restricted by the type of browser that you can use.

Re: Photosynth

Hmmnnn....looked....Installed.......looked again at your pics, didnt seem too impressed, not with your pics, but with the program itself. It would be just as good to stick a camera on video mode and upload to Youtube. And now, being as it is endorsed by Microshaft, it is being uninstalled as I type

Re: Photosynth

Speaking of microshaft: I don't use IE7 as my default browser. It takes a week to load up this site!Anyway, in order to use photosynth I had to revert to IE7.
Fair enough, you might say.
Well, the damn thing has now made itself the default browser. And doesn't want to be turned off.
I will sort it, but it is just another example of the idiocy one gets from powerful closed source companies.

It didnt do that with mine, just left an icon in the quick start tray which I deleted. Firefox is still the default. I didnt really see any pics on that site that grabbed my attention, and in fact most seemed to be of a 0% "synthy" ie it didnt do anything at all. The ones that did get a "synthy" rating seemed to jump all over the place instead of panning around like I expected it to do

Smile Re: Photosynth

Thanks for the feedback. I am finding people's experience with photosynth varies: the bulk of people here- and elsewhere- were not over impressed with it.
On reflection, maybe I should have asked people about their hardware and OS and connection speeds.
Interesting. I will fiddle about with it and report back.
