| Re: URL Issue Stumpey am I right in thinking ... If the DNS host is 123 and that is pointing to 123.456.78.9/directory then on the assumption that the PC is a server this bit Quote:
also my limited knowledge of htaccess is unix where .htaccess is a 'hidden' file and you usually need to do a (non dot) rename (and prefereably copy) so that you can see / edit the existing content. Afterthought, I seem to remember that code something like that is a redirect - wouldn't that put you in an endless loop between PC and DNS server ?

| Re: URL Issue If you have root access you can view the file, much like on windows machines you set the config so you can view hidden files and folders.

| Re: URL Issue If we are talking Linux then the .htaccess (hidden) file would be in the www folder of apache. Windoz I dunno never used apache in windoz only iss.! Think Kate is using apache under windoz so things are a bit grey.... The redirect is for punters that use your ip address and not your domain name it just sends them round to use your domain name...and in the fullness of time maybe they will book mark the domain name rather than the ip address. The bottom line is that 123-reg command window should be able to do this properly , I have no experiance of 123 so I maybe talking out of my backside, if they cant then they are not the company for you.Their tech team must get this all the time maybe they need rounding up a flogged to within an inch or their lives....!!!!!!. You should not need to set up a dns server just so that you can get you domain name working properly. Steve

| Re: URL Issue Maybe I am getting confused...and the grey matter (all two brain cells) are shorting but I thought the redirect would only work as a frame redirect or just resolve to the ip address. What Kate wants is for it to work properly and resolve to the domain name with all the extensions an http redirect....if this is not so number one I will get my coat..!!

| Re: URL Issue Ok its quiet at work so have surfed for some info on 123-reg seems you are not alone with the redirect problem and the best resolution is to dump them as they are pants..... Steve

| Re: URL Issue I notice with your site you use Iframes and your URL remains static and doesn't show the URL paths. Do the paths work with this provider ?
