Thanks BJ. I've tried that but I get the http://87.194.156.4/blah blah blah ... I get the full url BUT I also get the IP Address which I don't want either... not user friendly

if you look at ScotWeather now you will see it now has the ip addy but it also has the whole url..... is there a way to change the ip to a more friendly url in apache ?

Hi Kate

Without telling you how to suck eggs

but lets cover all bases...

In the control panel choose the "Manage DNS" option.
You want to alter the DNS for the "www" domain. Put in the box to the right of it your IP address, make sure "type" is set to A-Record and not C-NAME and click update.

For htaccess ip address to domain name add

Options +Indexes
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^([^.]+)$ http://www.scotweather.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]

I think i set you this link, its an advance tutorial, but its easy to follow.

Thanks Mos I've installed it but I can't get it to run the service because I'm getting access denied on the system32/dns/etc/name.conf file and not matter what I do it will not allow access to open the file.

I don't know if this is worth all the effort since the site still works without the long urls.

This should be so simple cant see why 123-reg are making it so hard
