Software for W-8681 weather station

I purchased one of these units in February this year hoping to put the current weather conditions onto an already existing website displaying images from my webcam. I eventually managed this using WeatherDisplay software but I had to pay for it and found it difficult to set up, probably others have found this to be the case. UK webcams - Knutsford - weather station

I recently found a website offering free software for this instrument. Whilst not as comprehensive as WeatherDisplay it's a lot more user friendly. The company is Sandaysoft and their website is at Sandaysoft . The webpages I set up using this software are at Weather in Mobberley Cheshire uk weather

Reading back this seems like an advertisment, it's not!! I've not seen this software mentioned before and thought others might like to save some money and give it a try.

I'm just testing it at the moment and using a fresh clean (empty) EW dat file. I've set it up to upload its data to a web page, take a look at:-

Re: Software for W-8681 weather station

I have only had a quick look at it so far and I'm not sure what you mean by 'templates'. I've had a quick word with the author, mentioning the rain corruption problems in the EW dat file. The problem being that this software gets it's data from the EW dat file and if that is corrupt...

He says he is looking at interrogating the LCD display directly for the data in the V2 of his software, he is already aware of the corrupt rain data problem.

Re: Software for W-8681 weather station

reading the authors website - yes it's template driven, and you can create your own from a list of variables just like eg. VWS

As Harry hasn't complained, I am assuming it's packaged with it's own auto ftp facility.

Even 'out-of-the-box' it seems to have great basics and graphics.

Perhaps a couple of guys could give it a blasting and write a review ?

Perhaps we (forum) could give the author a healthy pat on the back, not least of which because IT'S FREE !

YES

Try clicking the link in my first post on the subject.

I'm very busy at the moment with other matters, but what I think I'm seeing....

1. It only stores the live data, when its running - it doesn't look back in the dat to any weather history. So basically it needs to run all of the time.

2. Rather oddly.. It takes several minutes before it displays all of the data and it appears gradually. EW shows the current data almost instantly.

Aside from the above, it looks good and the FTP is very configurable by the looks of it - AND it does APRS data upload

Now if, EW sort their rain glitch out, or Steve bypasses EW's dat - then it becomes a great bit of software.

Re: Software for W-8681 weather station

Hello,

I was googling for info on these types of stations and saw my software mentioned - I'm Sandaysoft.

I just thought I'd let you know that I've just realeased a version of my software which talks directly to the weather station, so hopefully this will avoid the monsoon rainfall problems. This version doesn't use the history in the logger, so really needs to be on all the time for best results. But I'm working on that...

Steve
