This is how the moon (which luckily just appeared) looks at the moment without any changes to the settings on the camera {and sadly with the flash on}

You might just stand a good chance of getting a good pic then Dolly !
Turn the blinking flash off it only wastes the battery.... I won't make a difference to the moon !!!!

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

i think the clear skies atm give false hope. Its going to get cloudy.
I have to admit its nice to see some clear sky as it has been misty with a lot of low cloud today, moreso than yesterday. I reckon patchy cloud will hamper my view of the eclipse later on tonight - we shall see.

ANyone staying up? (or sleeping earlier and getting up later)

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

You should be playing with the settings now Dolly. You need to increase the shutter speed to a minimun of 250ths of a second the the moon shouldn't burn out so much.

You should see some of the eclipse from 12.30 am onwards

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

hmm as i know nothing about cameras its a good thing to start tonight. (btw i cant find the user manual anywhere - trust me when i need it !)

So... exposure - do I need this high, low or "0"?
Sensitivity - Auto, 80, 100, 200 or 400?
Aspect Ratio - 4:3, 3:2, or (as i have currently) 16:9?
Any idea what AF Mode means? its got some random pictures of squares for different options
Slow shutter - 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or 1?
i have digital zoom on
Picture Adjust - Natural, Standard or Vivid?
Macro or normal?

your thoughts please Many thanks.

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

Sorry I don't know your camera but I've found where you can download the manual.

Panasonic UK Download Centre for Manuals, Software and Drivers

Do a search on the DMC-FX12K

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

Earlier mist has cleared more now to partly cloudy which is a bit better for viewing the moon now. It can be seen clearly more at times.
