You can see the sort of results you can expect given the right settings. A lot of it is trial and error tho.

It doesn't look good. I don't see manual in the specification at all but you could try different settings but whatever you do photograph is only going to be pin size and no closeups of the moon.

You do not want too much light into the camera so when the moon is bright you need a faster shutter speed and shorter exposure but when the moon goes dark you need a slower shutter speed and longer exposure. I doubt you will get the pictures you want from this camera sorry Dollsworth.

Re: Total Lunar Eclipse 21st Feb 2008

Thats ok, not to worry. I feared that might be the case. Maybe i should look into a better camera for my birthday.

Thank-you for your time and help. Any suggestions as to what type to look for?

Well you do not need to go to a DSLR ! Something like the Fujifilm S5200 or S5600 are more than adequate to take pics of the eclipse and is pretty good for the weather too oh and reasonably cheap now. About £130 tops. Depends on the budget of course but I've never had a problem with this camera and I've even dropped it and got it soaking wet in torrential rain and the darn thing keeps working. If budget unlimited I'd go for the Fuji S9600 its pretty good.

FinePix S5600 Zoom Digital Camera from Fujifilm UK

My lunar eclipse pics were taken with a Fujifilm S5100 btw.

For lunar eclipses you also need a good sturdy tripod or you will get nothing but blurry pictures.
