| Re: Partial Lunar eclipse 7th September To see anything at all, you will need a flat eastern horizon and very clear skies. Most of the eclipse will take place at a very low altitude. |

| Re: Partial Lunar eclipse 7th September Experienced eclipse observers will be able to watch the second half of a partial eclipse of the Moon after sunset on 7 September. Lunar eclipses take place when the full Moon is exactly in line with the Earth and Sun and it moves into the Earth’s shadow. They can be seen wherever the Moon is above the horizon and so from a given spot on the Earth’s surface are much more common than solar eclipses, although they are still unusual events. From the UK the Moon will be below the horizon for most of the event. It will rise towards the end of the eclipse. By then only the edge of the Moon will still be immersed within the darkest part of the Earth's shadow or umbra. Most of the lunar disk will have a definite yellow tint caused by the lighter outer shadow or penumbra. The colours of a lunar eclipse are caused as sunlight is refracted through the Earth's atmosphere. Observers in the south-eastern part of the UK will have the best view of the eclipse. From London the Moon rises at 1936 BST. Greatest eclipse is at 1951 BST and the Moon emerges from the umbra at 2038 BST. The event finally ends as the Moon emerges from the penumbral shadow at 2200 BST. Link: http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server.php?show...d=00500300j008

| Re: Lunar Eclipse: weather watch Reporting from an internet shop in Becton, East London. That was the best lunar eclipse I have ever seen! Once the moon had risen above some clouds on the horizon, which I presume were on the coast, it was perfect. Took somepics with my little camera but they will all show the moon as far too small to see the earths shaddow. Anyone an opinion about how many Megapixls and how much zoom I would need to show this? |
