Tornado in eastern China 05 July 07

A tornado with wind speeds up to 65mph (approx. 100 kmh) has killed 14 people and injured more than 140 in eastern China. They are the latest casualties from the bad weather that has devastated parts of the country this summer. The tornado hit three villages around Tianchang in Anhui province, destroying more than 100 houses. The bodies of seven people have been recovered from the rubble.

Thats a high death rate. Do you think its down to the type of housing construction, the population density or lack of a warning system ?

Re: Tornado in eastern China 05 July 07

I'm thinking lack of procedure as china does not get get many tornado's, if my geo is still up to scratch they get the occasion Typhon, and earthquakes so there building may have been built to widthstand those but perhaps not a tornado.

Re: Tornado in eastern China 05 July 07

Tornado`s are common in China but have not been reported via international media due to the communism there.I have found some info on past tornado events from China and an explanation as to the reasons of nothing being reported about them.
