| Tropical Storm Forecast Tracks as of 17:00GMT on Thursday 8th May 2008 Tropical Storms currently active: 1 Rammasun: Tropical storm Rammasun is currently situated in the northwest Pacific, at latitude 9, longitude 132. It is currently classified as a Category 2 tropical storm, after being downgraded from a Category 3, with winds of up to 54mph reported so far. | Tropical Storm Forecast Tracks as of 18:55GMT on Friday 9th May 2008 Tropical Storms currently active: 1 Rammasun: Tropical storm Rammasun is currently situated in the northwest Pacific, at latitude 13, longitude 132. Over the last 24 hours it has strengthened and has therefore been classified as a Category 3 tropical storm, with winds of up to 92mph reported so far. | Tropical Storm Forecast Tracks as of 22:09GMT on Saturday 10th May 2008 Tropical Storms currently active:1 Rammasun: Super Typhoon Rammasun is currently situated in the northwest Pacific, at latitude 14, longitude 132. At 7pm yesterday, shortly after the previous forecast was issued here on MWF, the storm was reclassified as a Category 4 tropical storm, with winds of up to 149mph reported, and gusts up to 190mph so far. | Re: Rammasun - NW Pacific I have found an article related to Typhoon Rammasun back in 2002: BBC NEWS | World | Asia-Pacific | Typhoons batter East Asia My understanding is that they use the same names again in a few years time unless that particular tropical storm caused widespread disruption? For example, Katrina, Mitch and Andrew won't be used again after the devastation they caused, but smaller storms, such as Rammusan will be (or have been) used again. ![]()

| Tropical Storm Forecast Tracks as of 18:45GMT on Monday 12th May 2008 Tropical Storms currently active:1 Rammasun: Typhoon Rammasun is currently situated in the northwest Pacific, at latitude 30, longitude 139. The typhoon has been downgraded to a Category 1 typhoon, although winds of up to 149mph have been reported, and gusts up to 190mph, but in the last day or so it has weakened substantially as it moves over much cooler waters to the southeast of Japan. | Tropical Storm Forecast Tracks as of 21:58GMT on Tuesday 13th May 2008 Tropical Storms currently active:0 Rammasun: Tropical depression Rammasun has weakened substantially over the last 2 days or so over the cooler waters of the northwest Pacific, to the southeast of Japan. At peak strength, winds of up to 149mph were reported, and gusts up to 190mph, and it reached a Category 5 Super Typhoon, making it the third most powerful typhoon to develop in May in recorded history, even though it didn’t make landfall. --------------- Disclaimer: Please note that the forecast maps for tropical storms must not be used for the protection of life and property, as some of the data may be inaccurate.
