Power of the Wind

Hi All
I thought I would post this photo of our 15m tower bending in a high wind (I think about 35/40mph) this was before I added an extra guy wire just under the rotor.

It is also a different turbine I was flying then with a fixed tail so it could not turn out of the wind, the one we fly now has a hinged tail so at about 30mph it starts to turn out of the wind.

The tower did not fall down but it was scarry to watch because you are completly helpless.

It was not just the top that was bending there was a nice!! gentle curve all the way to the bottom.

Roger

Re: Power of the Wind

Hi Shardy
No it is 2" water pipe screwed together 2 x 6m & 1 x 3m or scaffold size if you like

There is not much vertical weight its the force of the wind on the 1.8m 5 blade rotor trying to blow it over.

The guy wires are 4mm dia, 3 sets of 4.

3mm would have been strong enough but would look toooo thin

It all keeps me off the steets!

Roger
