Coastal Erosion

Half Hour Radio Program.
  • One Planet: coastal erosion

Coastal communities around world, from Bangladesh to Britain, are under threat from rising sea levels and coastal erosion. In an island nation such as Britain, the shoreline has changed significantly in the past thirty years and it is set to continue at a rapid pace. So can governments do anything to slow the effects of the sea or are changing coastlines an inevitable result of climate change? Mark Whittaker reports.

My Opinion:

Lightweight.
Tediously Slow Moving.
Annoying 'Gritty' Human Interest.
Content could have been transmitted in less tham 5 minutes.

On The Other Hand:

Discusses the obvious basics of the issue.
Admits that Coastal Erosion exists.
Admits that Climate Change + Sea Level Rise exist.

Hi Shardy,
Not sure what will happen up here in East Anglia, if you listen to the polititans on our local tv station every week one will say they have not got any money in the purse for to upgrade the sea defences and the next week they will say they have.

I think its a case of vote for us and we will save your coast and if you don't vote for us then let it go back to the North Sea.

I feel sorry for the people living in the area which is affected, there was one guy showing his house this week, now right on the edge of the cliff and it is now only worth £1, three years ago there was a road and another row of houses between him and the sea.

No one knows the outcome I don't think.

Geoff

Re: Coastal Erosion

A good point Geoff,

Our Parliament is now full of "Careerist" Politicians, who trade in soundbites not substance.

I am no scientist, but even I understand that the "bread basket" that is east Anglia must be defended from incursion by the sea.

There are some erosian Scientists who believe that if Spurn head was removed, then the erosion would not be so great and ergo the north sea not such a threat to Anglia.

One thing is for certain, to ignore the power of nature is to court disaster

I totally agree with you Shardy, I think there is a lot of MP's who are hoping that this problem will go away on its own.

The sad thing about the guy I mentioned with his house, he bought it several years ago when he retired, also he cannot claim a penny from his insurance as no insurance company will recognize coastal erosion
