I don't have McAfee on either machine. I have closed Avast - no change.

I think this could be something strange at Orange. I will email a friend who is also on Orange, who I think still has FF on his PC, to see if he has a similar experience.

Thanks again everyone. I have to go offline for a while.

OK Sorry for the Hotlink but this is a similar problem..... don't know if it will shed any light on the problem or not

This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js. - Ultrashock Forums

Here is another site with a possible solution.

Banking Website error: "This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js" : This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js

A few others

this page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js - Flashloaded

Re: Error Message

The all point to the file missing or in the wrong location. As you can see the file are in the same directory /ads/

I think the page is cached to a version that has AC_RunActiveContent_QueryString.js in a different location.

You could try this

Orange have been having a lot of DNS issues lately, anyone who is having problems and using 195.92.195.94 + 195.92.195.95 are being recommended to use the alternative 193.36.79.100 + 193.36.79.101 instead.
and dont forget to flush your dns. Apparently they have been trialing "advertisment error codes" and blocking sites due to content (we've been there before )

Re: Error Message

I'm inclined to agree that the problem is a (remote) cache.

Shouldn't make a difference Grant, but try changing:

Code:
<script src="http://www.midlandsweather.org.uk/ads/AC_RunActiveContent_QueryString.js" language="javascript"></script>
To ..
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.midlandsweather.org.uk/ads/AC_RunActiveContent_QueryString.js" ></script>
Mind you I can't see how it works in the first place !

AC_FL_RunContent_QueryString = 0 // OK they've set a flag

But there is nothing in the script that runs on load to change it !!

Thanks for that. I did take a look. Of the answers that I could understand, I have the impression it is for the website developer to put the necessary code in the right place. Now , I barely managed to cobble together my own website, so this is all very complicated to me.
This explained things rather well

Adobe - Developer Center : Preparing your website to handle the Microsoft changes to Internet Explorer

although I have no idea why this is just suddenly happening especially when a friend also on Orange does not get the same error on this site.

Or try the open dns server as I suggested earlier and this will route around orange then. Use
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

as your two dns servers and see how it goes.

As you stated just above..."it is up to the website designer to put the code in the right place" this may be the cause of your problem. From what I can make out, Grant has made a change to that script and it has moved to another location. Your ISP having cached pages, cant see the script in the place that it says it is because Grant has moved it. Using another DNS server will point to the correct page

This morning I followed the instructions on the DNS site, and I just checked (http://www.opendns.com/welcome/)
and I am using their server. (I registered with them but I understand this is not essential. Just as well because my email never came through).
I am still getting the error msg. Do I have to change anything in Firefox's Tools/ Options/ Network/ Settings? Mine is set to direct connection.
I have cleared the cache again and done a Ctrl F5 on Midlands Weather, again no change.

Re: Error Message

Hi there this morning i was able to replicate you error big-dave it only it seems on IE7 (typical), to me it seems it was effected by using a proxy server rather than a direct connection to the internet, this error is associated with the google ads as they would render correctly. all in all everything else worked fine.

Thanks for the info, but I have no problem when using IE7. It is only when using Firefox that I get the error, and it happens on both of my computers! My laptop is not being used with a proxy and it happens there. I think there must be some other explanation. It is strange that you experience this with IE7 when I only have the problem with Firefox!

Cheers!
