The last of the 12 installments, only seems like yesterday i started this

2nd September 1906 - The air temperature reached 35.6c (96.0f) in Barnet, Herts, Epsom, Surrey and Bawtry, West Yorkshire.

5th September 1958 -
The heaviest hailstone ever recorded in Britain fell at Horsham, Sussex at 6pm. It was 6.5 ounces and the size of a grapefruit. Small pits were left in lawns where the hailstones had fallen. Around 10,000 bushels of apples were destroyed, and those left...

1st August 1846 - Hailstones broke 7000 panes of glass in the Houses of Parliament. The glass arcade that covered the pavements of Regent Street was smashed to smithereens.

3rd August 1990 - Air temperature of 37.1c recorded in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. On the same day the highest record overnight minimum was 23.9c at Brighton.

6th August 1981 - Daytime darkness fell on London with a spectacular lightning display.

6th August 2003 - Air temperature of 34.6c...

The Severn Bore in all it's Glory

The Romans, when they first saw the Severn Bore a little below Gloucester, ran scared thinking the end of the world was nigh!
Old prose tells of a raging, boisterous mass of water surging up the Severn, overflowing the banks and filling the land far inland with water and overturning the toiling barge out in the river with its helmsman having fought a losing battle to keep his craft heading into the wave to avoid the turbulence. ...

July Weather Events Over the Years

1st July 1960 - An air frost in Norfolk. -1c was recorded.

1st July 1968 - Red rain fell on most of England and Wales. In Guildford large orange blobs covered the town, Liphook, Hampshire recorded 34c and Leeming, Yorkshire had 4cm of rain in 8.5 minutes. 8cm Giant hail fell on Devon.

8th July 1707- Several men and horses died from heat stroke during harvest work in England. Temperatures were reported as high as 38c.

2nd June 1975 - Snow prevented cricket at Buxton, interrupted play at Colchester, and on the same day also fell at Lord's. Snow settled in Edinburgh, Newark, Grantham and Peterborough.

4th June 1944 - A storm postponed the Allied landings in France.

6th June 1975 - Since the 2nd June air temperatures had climbed 20c - a heatwave began.
