1065 - Westminster Abbey opens in London
1694 - Queen Mary II of England dies after five years of rule, aged 32yrs
1850 - Rangoon, Burma, destroyed by fire
1879 - 90 people are killed when the Tay railway bridge collapses as the Edinburgh to Dundee train crossed
1881 - The Savoy in London became the first theatre lit with incandescent electric lamps. A total of 1,158 bulbs were used
1887 - Sir John Layton Jarvis, first British race horse trainer knighted
