no one seemingly can do their jobs these days ?? - my recycling which our council purports to be so keen on - has not been collected for 5 weeks
- and nor has the neighbors - so it is piling up outside in wheelie bins - black bags etc
i have rung them and been promised action within 36 hours - yea right
e-mailed them and been PROMISED it would be collected - yea right
and emailed them again and threatened to stage a protest out side the council offices - complete with wheelie bin and recycling bags - which i WILL do if they don't respond - though how i am going to tow a wheelie bin to the offices behind my mobility scooter i have yet to figure out - but where there is a will - there is a way
it seems to me you pay your council tax - 80 quid a month ( with the single person discount ) - and is more than 10% of my monthly income ( council tax poverty ) - but one need not expect any services -
of course the students round here contribute NOTHING but use the services - time they joined the rest of the real world and stumped up something !! - if they can go drinking /clubbing and run cars they can afford to pay for the services that us residents have to fork out for - and before any one starts bleating about student debt etc etc - THEY choose to go to uni - in the hope of the BIG MONEY jobs at the end of it - so they get ZERO sympathy from me !!
thinking of which - i put in for council tax relief 3 weeks ago - no reply yet - and by their OWN standards the council is supposed to sort this within 14 days ......
oh amazing - they have ( just come in the door ) .... and what do i get - a lousy 4.21 p a week relief - suppose if i had 6 kids and had never worked a day in my life - then i would pay nothing
right rant over except to say ....
SHAME ON YOU PLYMOUTH CITY COUNCIL !!!!

| | Thanks Brett but I fear it is an ingrained problem with local authorities! They owe you ..... you have to wait 6 months but if you owe them 1p the bailiffs will be round next day ! Red Tape, Red Tape, Red Tape. We have similar problems here in Falkirk too with some council services but at least where I live they are regular with the collections. I believe you are correct..... if you have council property, no work (or very little) there is still room to work the system so that you don't have to work and live a comfortable life. Despicable ! Yet those of us who have worked all our lives and claimed little or nothing from local government offices are still expected to pay or we get help reluctantly eventually. Excellent blog m8 |

| | Get the local press onto it. |

| | nice idea grant - but a waste of time - the locals seem to be only interested in "positive " stories about the council - if you get my drift and they certainly wont be interested in the problems of any one disabled - that's for sure !! ( i speak form experience here ) |

| | Get a national onto it then or ask the WMN, as they won't have any bias to PCC. Or how about a "moan in" show on BBC Radio Devon - lol |

| | even better phoned my local councilor - and he has sent them an email to chivvy them up a bit - he seems as cynical about the council as i am - more anon .......... |

| | Due to ill health at the moment, I am claiming Coucil tax benefit and housing benefit ( not that it comes close to covering the rent, other half from other benefits!). However, latest saga was that I asked initially if the Housing benefit could be paid into the bank to be told definately NOT ! and that it HAD to pain by cheque to our address !. Sometime ago one payment never arrived so I informed them. Filled out the relevant forms and told to wait 14 days !, (" Oh sorry make that 15 days because we are on strike for more pay !!"). 15 days later still no sign of a response, so after phoning them and politely telling them that I needed to pay the rent soon, was told "tell your landlord that they will have to wait a bit and that the payment will come soon "....(try telling them that when the council tax is due !).....had to beg and borrow money to pay rent from family and friends !! Anyways, Now have been told that CAN now have money into bank account which is now happening. Only to find a few days later a letter from the Housing people demanding to know how we paid the rent whilst the missing payment was sorted out, and ohh in the mean time we are suspending your payments till we have a satisfactory answer !! talk about blind stupidity !! I feel for you Brett !! |

| | That's appalling Mitch - why is it that they can't get money from those who fiddle the system yet those who are honest get penalised at the drop of a hat. Useless the lot of them... |
