Yellow Warning (Flood Crisis) Fresh Flooding

Fresh flooding has been reported in West Oxford as a surge of water continues along the Thames Valley.

Robert Runcie of the Environment Agency said the Osney Island region of Oxford had been hit, not far from an electrical sub-station that powers the city's John Radcliffe Hospital.

"Properties have been protected with sandbags and there are several pumps," he said.

"Some people in the lowest parts of the streets are already being taken up out of their homes, particularly those who are elderly or infirm."

Mr Runcie added that 25-30 properties had been directly affected and added that the situation was "under controlled management".

The news comes after the Queen gave a message of support to those spending another night without runnng water.

In her message, the Queen said she was "shocked and deeply concerned" by the flood devastation.
